One of the most luxurious golf resort experiences in the Middle East, The Montgomerie, Dubai is centred around a 7,308-yard layout designed by eight-time European Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie in association with Desmond Muirhead. Opened in October 2002 and managed by Troon Golf, the spectacular linksland-style course is consistently ranked in the region’s top five layouts.
Surrounded by palatial homes of the Emirates Hills community, the course has undulating yet generous linksland-style fairways to challenge all levels of player, with a well-positioned tee shot being the formula for a good round. Finding a flat lie off the tee is a big challenge and large, deceptive greens create some trying putts to make this an enjoyable but tricky test.
The par-5 4th has been dubbed “the snake hole” for its saddleback fairway which doglegs towards the green, with two bunkers behind forming the eyes of the snake. But the par-5 18th offers a more classic test. At 656 yards and with water protecting the front of the green, it defies even the best player to hit the green in two.
The Montgomerie, Dubai boasts a magnificent clubhouse that opened in January 2006, featuring 21 five-star hotel suites, while The Academy by Troon Golf is a state-of-the-art fully floodlit practice facility, featuring a 9-hole par-3 academy course, a 24-acre driving range, multiple short game areas and practice bunkers. Indoors, your game can be analysed in the swing studio utilising V1 video swing analysis.
Three international restaurants and a cigar lounge are the perfect accessories to this resort facility, each offering indoor and al fresco dining. Nineteen, which won Dubai’s Best New Restaurant in 2007 in the Time Out Dubai Restaurant Awards and the 2007 What’s On Awards, still remains one of “Dubai’s best-kept secrets” in terms of fine dining. Alternatively, venture into Monty Cristo’s for a game of billiards whilst enjoying a cognac and cigar. Relax on pub-style fare in Bunkers spike bar or catch up on all things sport in the Academy.
The Montgomerie, Dubai was voted “Dubai’s Leading Golf Resort” in the 2006 World Travel Awards and also won the coveted title of 2006 Troon Golf Facility Of The Year over 185 other properties within Troon Golf’s portfolio. |
