The luxurious Abu Dhabi Golf Club has made a name for itself as one of the most stunning and well-maintained golf resorts in the Middle East. In partnership with Troon Golf, it mirrors the golf resort management’s ethos of excellence and in January it won the Middle East Golfer magazine Middle East Golf Venue of the Year award, as well as the award for best 18 holes. The club is only 20 minutes from Abu Dhabi City Centre and 15 minutes from Abu Dhabi International Airport.
This course was drawn to the world’s attention with the inaugural Abu Dhabi Golf Championship played on the National Course in January 2006. Within just three years, the event has clocked up record attendances and is the first significant tournament on the European Tour calendar.
The resort has 27 holes, a magnificent clubhouse with three floors of restaurants, a fully equipped meeting room and a separate, fully equipped state-of-the-art gymnasium facility, an outdoor free-form swimming pool, two glass-backed squash courts, plus a sauna/ steam room.
The clubhouse itself is a unique design, built in the shape of a falcon with its wings outstretched. As you look across the lakes from the far end of the course, the clubhouse dominates the scene and sets the tone for the elegance felt once inside. From the top of the clubhouse you can look out over the course. The clubhouse’s three floors house the Sushi Bar, Café 37, Casa Verde (Mediterranean restaurant) and 1001 Nights (piano lounge). There’s a member lounge with snooker table and an elegant business meeting room.
One of the reasons that this course has made a name for itself is that Peter Harradine, the designer, first began planting it back in 1992. This has given the layout its wellestablished and defined feel. Designed to be challenging yet fair, the 18-hole National Course has lush fairways, strategically placed bunkers and generous greens to challenge golfers whatever their handicap. As a perfect complement to the championship course, the 3,299-yard, par-36 National Garden is excellent for fine-tuning your game.
The extensive practice facilities feature a 9-hole putting green, chipping greens and practice bunkers and a floodlit 385-yard driving range, the largest in the Gulf.
Instructional programmes are offered by the experienced PGA professionals, while a variety of hire equipment, including air-conditioned golf carts, state-of-the-art golf clubs and shoes, is available. The fully stocked pro shop offers a variety of clothing and golf accessories for purchase. All in all, Abu Dhabi Golf Club is a must for any golfer visiting the UAE. |
